O's hammer Tranmere

Orient got back to winning ways at Brisbane road last night with an emphatic 3-0 win over Tranmere.

Goals from Wayne Gray, Sean Thornton and Jason Demetriou were enough to beat a Tranmere team who were in the game until going down to ten men five mniutes after half time.

Gray partnered Andy Barcham up front with Adam Boyd out with an ankle injury and it was the on loan Spurs forward who could have given Orient an early lead.

Using his speed and quick feet the 21-year-old glided through the static Tranmere defence before hitting a low stinging drive. Unfortunately for the home side Danny Coyne pulled off a solid save.

The O's didn't have to wait long to take the lead as 11 minutes in Gray prodded Orient into the lead after Tranmere failed to clear a Wayne Corden corner.

The goal spurred the away side into life and bombarded Stuart Nelson in the Orient goal with the former Brentford stopper pulling off an excellent save to deny a deflected Shane Sheriff shot.

It was Sherriffs last meaningful contribution as just after half time the dfender was given his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card.

It was Barchams pace which was his undoing as the speedy striker nipped past Sheriff. The right back was slow to react and clattered into Barcham leaving the referee little option but to show him a second yellow.

That was the end of the game as acontest as although the away side went close with Calvin Zola there was little creativity from the Wirral club.

Thornton made the game safe with an excellent curling shot after 84 minutes. The former Sunderland man picked the ball up at the edge of the area and hit a sweetly struck dipping shot which gave Coybe no chance in the Tranmere goal.

The O's were cruising and there was little surprise when Demetriou cut in neatly in injury time beofre firing past Coyne for the third Orient goal.

Star Player

Wayne Corden. Put in some good crosses throughtout and always looked like creating something. Caused the Tranmere defence a lot of problems and linked up well with Aiden Palmer.
