Still No Home Comfort For O's As Swindon Grab Win

Swindon Town became the latest team to take advantage of Leyton Orient's poor form at home as they ran out 2-1 winners.

The visitors took the lead through Michael Smith midway through the half before doubling their advantage early in the second half. Substitute Darius Henderson pulled a goal back for Orient deep into added time but it was too little, too late for Kevin Nugent's side.

Nugent made three changes to the side that lost to Rochdale last week, recalling captain Nathan Clarke to the starting line-up as well as handing starts to Marvin Bartley and Jay Simpson.

Dean Cox came close to firing Orient ahead on the 17th minute when Chris Dagnall pulled the ball back for him inside the box but Nathan Thompson was well positioned to head the winger's goal-bound shot off the line.

Swindon then took the lead on the 29th minute when Massimo Luongo broke free down the right and picked out Michael Smith who controlled well before firing a shot which took a deflection on it's way past Gary Woods.

Nathan Byrne was looking a real threat for the Robins and failed to make the most of two chances at the end of the first half before doubling the visitors lead two minutes after the restart.

Orient saw an attack break down and Swindon responded by quickly breaking down the other end and Smith this time turned provider by slotting the ball through to Byrne who tucked the ball away confidently.

Frustration started to become apparent for Orient as they failed to break down Swindon and lacked any real creativity but Orient were handed a glimmer of hope when Henderson headed in Cuthbert's cross in the sixth minute of stoppage time to pull a goal back.

The O's then burst forward in an ambitious hope to salvage something from the tie but the ball just would not drop for a red shirt inside the box as Swindon held to claim a deserved victory.
