O`s Out After Reeves Winner

Ben Reeves`s goal with mere seconds left of normal time ensured it was the Essex side who go through to the showpiece final at Wembley in April.

The Southampton youngster stole a march on Leon McSweeney to tap home the winner after Kevan Hurst has manage to wrangle free from Mathieu Baudry to cross for Reeves. It was a bitter pill to swallow for the away side who had dominated large chunks of the match without killing off their opponents.

The O`s started off brightly and were soon rewarded when Shaun Batt levelled the aggregate scoring. Neat work between Dean Cox and Moses Odubajo led to Cox crossing the ball low into the box where Batt stole a march on a Southend defender to prod the ball into the corner of the net.

Whilst the O`s dominated large spells of the first half, they were unable to create any more clear cut opportunities, with only half chances falling to David Mooney, which he wasn`t able to get on target.

Southend began matching the visitors in the second half and got level on the night thanks to Barry Corr lashing in on the rebound from inside the box.

Again the O`s were behind on aggregate and needed a second. They pushed Southend hard until they got their second of the night from David Mooney. A terrific cross from McSweeney with his unfavoured left foot found the head of Mooney perfectly who headed the ball past a helpless Paul Smith.

With almost 90 minutes completed it seemed like the tie was heading to penalties, but Southend weren`t finished. Hurst managed to shrug off the challenge of Mathieu Baudry on the byline and find Reeves perfectly to send Southend into the final.
