Orient Sink To Defeat

Three games and three defeats to teams tipped for relegation has left Orient at the foot of the nPower League One table. After defeats to Walsall and Tranmere Rovers, Orient fans have now pressed the panic button after newly promoted Wycombe strolled to victory.

It took just 8 minutes for the Chairboys to go ahead and Ben Strevens headed a Gareth Ainsworth cross past Lee Butcher in the Orient goal. Orient reacted well and pegged Wycombe back 8 minutes later when an Elliot Omozusi cross was volleyed wonderfully past Nikki Bull in the Chairboys' goal by Dean Cox. Orient didn't even give themselves time to settle as Wycombe came back on the attack and were awarded a penalty when Stephen Dawson fouled Stuart Beavon on 18 minutes. Tiny midfielder Scott Donnelly put the spot-kick past Butcher to restore Wycombe's lead. A crazy 10 minutes of action there. The teams went in at the break and hopefully Russell Slade give the O's a rollocking, however, whatever he said didn't work as Wycombe extended their lead just minutes after the break when Joel Grant scored from another Gareth Ainsworth cross. After that the game fizzled out and Wycombe earnt a vital win and Orient sunk to 24th, a place even the most negative Orient fan would have expected after three games.

It seems as though Russell Slade has no Plan B. No, not the North London crooner who raps about Staying Too Long and prostitutes from Camden, but something different to win games. The passing game we play has been 'found out' by the other teams in our league and Slade seems a little bit lost at what to do next. Our passing has been fine but we lack that killer edge and someone to create something. We happily pass the ball between our back five but going forward, there's little options.

Wycombe looked hungrier and their work rate was far higher then that of the Orient team, something Gary Waddock mentioned in his post match interview. The Wycombe midfield was far better then ours and Russell has realised that the midfield aren't 'clicking'. The most pressing matter, however, is the lack of a winger. With Dean Cox down the left and no one on the right, we are lopsided. When the ball is played out to the right to Elliot Omozusi, there is no one ahead of him so he has to play the ball back into danger or hit and hope a long ball. It seems that all the Orient fans can see this and Russell can't, however, there is full backing that a winger will come in on loan soon.

Another night of few stand out players, Charlie Daniels was probably the stand out performer.
Possibly at fault for the first and third Wycombe goals, confidence is running out in the youngster. Poor Elliot. First he has no winger in front of him that leads to him marking two players, then Joel Grant gives him a torrid time. Did provide the inch perfect cross for Tiny's goal. Got down the left well and looked dangerous, as ever. Had a very physical contest with the Wycombe forwards and come off worse and with a silly yellow card for dissent. Looking a good signing, comfortable on the ball and is a ball playing centre back, however, Terrell Forbes will be wanting to start games. He's had a quiet start to the season and was very anonymous on Tuesday. Could well be the scapegoat if results don't pick up We play better with 'Daws' on the pitch and we did threaten with him on the pitch. Only his second game back and he'll get better. Been the first scapegoat of the season, and not the last, but Springy had a better game on Tuesday. Who? The bloke who's supposed to get the goals for us? Nah, sorry mate, never heard of him. Chose to pass in decent shooting positions. After being told all night that Wycombe 'saved his career' by spotty teenagers with a drum, Revs didn't make them eat their words. Fantastic finish for the goal and had a few decent runs and crosses. Pacey and raw and possibly could have done more with the shot he had. Still learning. Won some headers and actually took a few shots, even if they ended up smashing windows in the South Stand flats.
