Vital View - League 2, 14th February 2017

The League 2 season continued with the latest round of games played during midweek.

Doncaster lost but Plymouth were beaten too so couldn't capitalise. Newport remain bottom - despite extending the unbeaten run - with a Leyton Orient win not enough to take them out of the relegation zone.

Here's a round up of the League 2 action from the other games.

Results

Tuesday 14th February 2017 - LEAGUE TWO
Carlisle United 2-1 Doncaster Rovers 19:45
Colchester United 2-3 Crawley Town 19:45
Crewe Alexandra 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers 19:45
Luton Town 3-0 Hartlepool United 19:45
Mansfield Town 4-4 Accrington Stanley 19:45
Morecambe 0-1 Barnet 19:45
Newport County 0-0 Grimsby Town 19:45
Notts County 2-2 Exeter City 19:45
Plymouth Argyle 2-3 Leyton Orient 19:45
Portsmouth 2-0 Blackpool 19:45
Stevenage 2-1 Cheltenham Town 19:45
Yeovil Town 1-1 Cambridge United 19:45

Doncaster's lead at the top was cut as the winless run was extended to three games. However, this was reduced by Carlisle - not title rivals Plymouth - after a 2-1 defeat at Brunton Park. The Cumbrians' second win in three kept them three points clear in 3rd and cut the gap to League 1 leaders Donny to eight.

A first win in five for Crawley saw them move towards midtable safety. Colchester's 3-2 defeat against the Red Devils meant the U's missed the chance to move back into a play-off position - remaining three points and a few places off Mansfield in that fourth spot.

Back-to-back wins were secured by Crewe as they damaged promotion chasing Wycombe's hopes at Gresty Road. Alexandra's 2-1 victory took them six points clear of the relegation zone. The Chairboys' third defeat in the last four sees them a point and a place outside of the top seven.

Luton's hopes of automatic promotion remain very much on after a 3-0 win over Hartlepool. Looking to recover from a 4-0 defeat at the weekend another heavy loss against the Hatters means Pools - who have lost three in a four game winless run - are just two points above the relegation zone.

When you score four goals at home you would expect to win. However, Mansfield - extending an unbeaten run to nine games - had to settle for a 4-4 draw with Accrington at Field Mill. It did keep the stags in the play-off places though and Stanley a point off the drop zone.

Morecambe's first defeat in seven meant the Shrimps' - albeit unlikely - push towards a potential play-off spot took a blow. Whereas Barnet's 1-0 win at the Globe Arena - a first win in six - revived the Bees' own top seven hopes to close the gap to three points.

The Newport unbeaten run was extended to six games but the Football League's bottom club had to settle for a fifth draw in that period. The Exiles a five points from safety after a 0-0 draw with Grimsby - who are four without a win - at Rodney Parade.

A Notts County point made sure they remained above the relegation zone on goal difference after a 2-2 draw with promotion chasing Exeter at Meadow Lane.

Plymouth's surprise defeat - as they missed the chance to gain a share of the League 2 lead - at Home Park against relegation threatened Leyton Orient saw the Pilgrims' title hopes damaged. Orient's first win in nine wasn't enough to take them out of the bottom two but goal difference alone is all that prevents this now.

Back-to-back Fratton Park wins have lifted Portsmouth up to 5th. A 2-0 win over Blackpool means Pompey are only four points - with a game in hand - off the automatic promotion place. Pools' first defeat in six - four had been drawn - saw a chance to close in on a play-off place lost.

Stevenage's impressive winning run was extended to four with a 2-1 win against relegation threatened Cheltenham. Boro are now just two points off a top seven place with the Robins just a place and goal difference above the bottom two.

Yeovil's third draw in a row - the Glovers are now four unbeaten - came at Huish Park after a 1-1 draw with Cambridge. A point did end the U's own four game losing run but they are now six without a win.
