Goalless Draw For Orient At Gateshead

Leyton Orient were denied a second successive pre-season victory when they drew 0-0 against Gateshead.

The O's controlled the match for long periods but were unable to convert their chances.

Scott Cuthbert missed out after picking up an injury at the training camp in Northumberland earlier on this week, whilst trialist Ayo Okusun started on the bench and Russell Slade used his links at South Shields to name 30-year-old Barry Smith in the squad.

In what was a quiet first half, Orient captain Nathan Clarke returned from injury to replace new signing Shane Lowry on the 43rd minute, before Gateshead goalkeeper Adam Bartlett denied the O's on several occasions throughout the second half to keep the score level.

Elliot Omozusi forced the Heed keeper into making a great save on the hour, when he connected brilliantly with a volley from David Mooney's cross.

Bartlett then produced a stunning save 12 minutes from time to deny Marvin Bartley, who had latched onto the rebound after Dean Cox's free-kick bounced back off the post as the match ended goalless.
