Hearn - Slade Is A Very Good Manager

Barry Hearn heaped praise on Orient manager Russell Slade after the 52 year old agreed to extend his stay in E10.

Along with Assistant Kevin Nugent and Chief Scout Kevin Dearden, Slade will be at the club until the end of the 2015/16 campaign after the trio signed on for another three years.

Speaking after the deal had been completed, Hearn expressed his delight at tying the former Scarborough boss down.

"I have a very good manager and for a club of our size to finish seventh in two of the last three seasons is a remarkable achievement. I`m a big fan of stability in any manager and I`m obviously delighted that he`s (Slade) extended his contract."

The chairman is hoping its fourth time lucky in terms of starting the season in a positive fashion after three previous sluggish openings.

"If we can hit the ground running instead of having a slow start then I`m quietly optimistic. I think our slow starts have been partly caused by having lots of new players but we want to keep most of the squad together next season so hopefully that shouldn`t be an issue."

Despite Hearn`s claims of having an already strong squad, it could be weakened if out of contract duo Romain Vincelot and David Mooney fail to agree new deals.

But regardless Hearn has stated that the squad could possibly be strengthened as early as next week.

"We are looking at players all the time and there should be some announcements next week."
