'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ground Staff Begin Work On Pitch

On Tuesday (May 28) The O's began the process of rectifying the pitch problems of last season by beginning work on the Brisbane Road surface.

Sheffield based company Premier Pitches have been brought in to help the Orient ground staff develop a surface which can survive the harsh winter of football for the 2013/14 League 1 campaign.

Extensive work has begun underneath the turf layer of the pitch in aid of helping the drainage system of the pitch.

Head Groundsman Colin James told the club website he hopes the latest developments will see better playing conditions for the new season.

'The Club have again invested heavily in the pitch to try and improve the surface for next year and hopefully we will have better weather to help things too.'

As was clear to see in early 2013, the pitch was struggling to drain any of the excessive surface water creating a difficult surface for Russell Slade's men to their style of football on.

This has been a problem since the new West Stand was built in 2005, and whether these latest developments can help the pitch remains to be seen.
