LOFC - Jones A Doubt For New Season

Jamie Jones is facing a fight to be fit for the new nPower League One season after missing a string of friendlies due to injuries.

The Scouse stopper missed friendlies against Luton Town and a behind-closed doors encounter with a QPR XI due to a shoulder injury. Jones, 23, missed the majority of last season after undergoing shoulder surgery so the latest setback leaves manager Russell Slade sweating ahead of next week's League One match at Tranmere Rovers.

Slade believes that Jones will struggle to be fit for the Capital One Cup tie at Charlton Athletic next week but should be close for selection for the match at Prenton Park next Saturday. Jones' injury gives a chance to summer signing Ryan Allsop, who is likely to step in should Jones fail in his latest bid to return to fitness.

Allsop joined this summer from Millwall on a six-month contract to cover for the absence of another injured goalkeeper, Lee Butcher, who is sidelined till New Year.
