'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Terrace Talk: Review 1

So we're one game into the new season already and the pessimists will be coming out to say it's the same old story with the O's. It didn't take long did it?

The performance against Yeovil looked pretty positive apart from the fact the O's lost the match. Based on every word that has been said since the defeat the signs are positive within the camp and remember, it was only the first game!

The O's can play football when they want to and this happened for long spells during the Yeovil match. The only problem is that very little was created and Yeovil pounced all over the limited chances they were given. All be it with a little help from Jamie Jones.

Alex Revell had a very good debut and looks as though he can form a very good partnership up front with Scott McGleish. He's one of the few O's players in the last couple of years who looks dangerous when he gets the ball and I sincerely hope that I'm not moaning about him in a couple of weeks.

The O's now have a very good chance to get some confidence in the bank ahead of a very difficult league match this Friday against Charlton. This is confidence that Russell Slade, Terrell Forbes and Revell have all said is needed.

The League Cup game with Swindon is an opportunity and although there are a few fans who will no doubt be accepting defeat already, the O's have got it in them to beat Swindon. Keep Austin quiet and it's all good.

The manager is likely to make a few changes and it would be good to see Ryan Jarvis and Jonathan Tehoue get a run out and play well. Jimmy Smith also looks like he's chomping at the bit to get in the team.

Swindon also lost their opening match of the season and will want to bounce back as well. It all makes for a very entertaining match and is well worth following online if you're not able to make the long mid-week trip.

The side looks to have a very good balance to it at the moment with the only problem area being the big gap in the side that needs to be filled by a winger who, as we already know, will come in on loan.

There is plenty of positive feeling from different sections of the club and this is very important. The O's did not play badly on Saturday. They made two mistakes and found themselves behind before the break.

It is very important the O's play well tonight. Another defeat will mean heads will be down when we play Charlton in front of the Sky cameras. Another defeat there and the pessimists will be having a jolly old time and the bitter taste of defeat will become a familiar unwanted friend for Orient.

Let's hope the only negative vibes coming out of Brisbane Road on Friday are based on the Sky Sports bus getting another ticket after the amusing incident two seasons ago against Brighton.

Up the O's!
